England tour to India: Mayank on standby, Rahul Dravid & Co to leave

India’s tour of England: Team India management has decided not to include Mayank Agarwal in the main squad. The BCCI wanted to add Mayank as a replacement for KL Rahul. However, as Shubhaman Gill is already present as an opener, the team management does not see the need to add him to the main team. The second batch will leave Bangalore for the UK on the morning of June 20. Follow India vs England live updates on InsideSport.IN.

Apart from head coach Rahul Dravid and co-captain Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer will be on the flight. They will team up with the rest of the team in the UK before the warm-up match against Leicestershire starting June 24.

“Mayank will be on standby. This is because of a single test, the team management does not see the need to add a player and then send him home. However, if he is injured, he will be sent to England. A senior BCCI official told InsideSport.

According to people close to the development, Mayank has already been told to stay on standby and prepare himself for red-ball cricket. Considering he was recently shown in the quarter-finals of the Ranji Trophy in Karnataka, he is still fresh.

“Mayank will continue to practice in Bangalore. He will be sent to England if the team needs him as an injury cover. He is not touring with the team at the moment. If we played multiple Tests, Mayank would travel with the squad. The officer added.

KL Rahul, who was scheduled to leave on June 20, has been ruled out of the England tour due to a groin injury. Instead, he will travel to Germany sometime this month for treatment.
