F1 Belgian GP Race Live: Belgian GP Live Updates – The Formula 1 circus will arrive in Belgium in the fourteenth round of the F1 2022 season. The iconic Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps will always host the first race just after the summer break. Sunday’s race promises to be exciting with many of the top drivers receiving penalties and will start from the back of the grid as a result. Carlos Sainz will start the race from pole position. F1 Belgian GP Race Live – Belgian GP Qualifying Highlights

Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz claimed pole for the Belgian Grand Prix despite finishing behind world champion Max Verstappen of Red Bull in qualifying at Spa-Francorchamps on Saturday. Sainz was the main beneficiary of a posse of drivers including Verstappen who picked up a penalty after fitting a new power unit for the season in Sunday’s 14th round.

Current championship leader Max Verstappen was the fastest man in qualifying but will start the race from 15th position on the grid. A total of 7 drivers are incurring grid penalty after adding additional units. Q3 saw the bottom 5 drivers eliminated including the likes of Sebastian Vettel, Nicolas Latifi, Kevin Magnussen, Yuki Tsunoda and Valtteri Bottas.

The Q2 session saw Daniel Ricciardo, Pierre Gasly, Zhou Guanyu, Lance Stroll and Mick Schumacher drop out as the top 10 battled for the top spots on the grid. Max Verstappen was the fastest who was close to Carlos Sainz. Sergio Perez took third and Charles Leclerc fourth on the grid.

The Alpine duo of Esteban Ocon and Fernando Alonso took 5th and 6th, followed by the Mercedes duo of Lewis Hamilton and Jorge Russell. Alex Abbotn and Lando Norris completed 9th and 10th on the grid. However, the grid starting position will be different and 7 drivers will be taking grid penalties.

Carlos Sainz started on pole and Sergio Perez started second. Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton are on the second row. Russell and Albon occupy the third row. Championship leader Max Verstappen started 15th on the grid followed by championship rival Charles Leclerc.

F1 Belgian GP Race Live – Free Practice Session Highlights

Sergio Perez beat Max Verstappen in FP3 at Spa ahead of the qualifying session. Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz finished third and McLaren’s Lando Norris continued his good form from Friday to finish fourth. The Mercedes duo of George Russell and Lewis Hamilton were just shy of the pace from Red Bull and could only manage 6th and 12th respectively.

The FP2 session at Spa was a mix of dry and wet conditions. Max Verstappen was the fastest man in the session, followed by Charles Leclerc and Lando Norris in third. The Mercedes duo of Lewis Hamilton and George Russell finished the session in 6th and 8th place.

FP1 at Spa again showed Ferrari’s pace dominance. Just seven-hundredths of a second separates Carlos Sainz from Charles Leclerc and the Spaniard is the fastest driver on the track. Max Verstappen rounded off third place with a stellar lap while George Russell finished fourth and Lewis Hamilton took ninth. The practice session was marred by red flags and moments before the skies opened, forcing the drivers to finish FP1 in the interim.
