At the recently concluded Commonwealth Games, Meerabai dominated the field like no other to win the elusive medal with ridiculous ease. Her dominance was evident when silver medalist Mari Hanitra lifted 29 kg less than the Indian in the overall weight. He lifted 201 kg overall, 88 in snatch and 113 kg in clean and jerk.

But with the World Weightlifting Championships coming up later in the year, the scenario is about to be reversed. It will be very difficult to take the field with the biggest names in weightlifting. The presence of Chinese lifters and other strong nations will make the competition very interesting. Chinese women are strong competitors in the competition.

It’s not just a medal that’s at stake for the Colombian lifters. The World Championships also serve as one of the qualifiers for the Paris 2024 Olympics and all lifters will be hoping to give their best.

He was so thrilled and excited that he himself posted the celebration on Twitter. Meerabai is busy meeting her family members and loved ones after reaching Manipur. “It’s always nice to be back home. Many people come here and meet me and I feel very happy when they do.”
