  • Satviksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty entered the World Championships after winning the men’s doubles gold medal at the Commonwealth Games 2022.
  • The Indian duo had a bye in the second round and started the campaign with a dominant straight sets win over Anibal Marroquin and Jonathan Solis.
  • They faced Lasse Molhede and Jeppe Bey of Denmark in the third round and won 21โ€“12, 21โ€“10.
  • Their opponents in the quarterfinals were the second-seeded Japanese pair of Takuro Haki and Yugo Kobayashi. It was a close contest that extended into the third game, but the Indian duo won the contest 24-22, 15-21, 21-14 to advance to the semifinals.
  • The win ensured them a bronze medal in the tournament but the world No. 7 pair will be looking for a higher podium finish.
  • Besides winning the gold medal at the CWG 2022, the Indian pair also won the title at the Indian Open earlier this year defeating Indonesia’s Mohammad Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan in straight games in the final.
  • They also reached the quarterfinals of the All England Open, Korea Open and Badminton Asia Championship.

  • Meanwhile, Malaysia’s Aaron Chia and Soh Wee Ik have shown great form in the tournament as they are yet to drop a game.
  • They advanced to the second round and beat Chinese Taipei’s Lu Ching-Yao and Yang Po-Han 22-20, 21-18.
  • In the second round, they faced compatriots Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin, who were seeded 11th in the tournament and won comfortably 21-17, 21-19.
  • They advanced to the semifinals after defeating South Korea’s Choi Sol-gyu and Seo Seung-jae in straight games 21-18, 21-16 in the quarterfinals.
  • The Malaysian pair’s best performance this year was runner-up at the Badminton Asia Championships. They reached the semi-finals of the Swiss Open, Thailand Open, Indonesia Open and Malaysia Open.

Rankireddy/Shetty vs Chia/Ike head-to-head: This will be the sixth meeting between the two pairs. The Malaysian pair have won all the previous five matches. They met twice this year, the most recent being during the Commonwealth Games 2022. The Rankireddy-Shetty duo lost the competition in straight games. The Malaysian duo once again entered the upcoming match as favourites.
